Motivated by the idea that financing increases revenues\u00b9 we looked at our German customer\u2019s sales data during the last 3 months. Due to the fact that more iPhones 6 were sold we also included the Samsung Galaxy S5 \u2014 to get a more balanced data set for our Search Query Analysis of Apple vs. Samsung.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><b>Too long; didn\u2019t read version:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 The Whoop data science team tested the impact of financing related search queries on Apple&#8217;s iPhone 6 and Samsung&#8217;s Galaxy devices.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> \u2022 If a search query contains a financing related term the Cost per Conversion decreases, the Average Order Value increases and the Conversion Rate explodes. However, this is only true for Apple devices. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 The relationship between financing search queries and conversion rates for iPhones is significant.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/smarter-ecommerce.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/apple-vs.-samsung-financing-intro.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-694\" src=\"https:\/\/smarter-ecommerce.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/apple-vs.-samsung-financing-intro-1024x576.png\" alt=\"apple vs. samsung financing-intro\" width=\"648\" height=\"365\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>What data was used<\/h2>\n<p>The data set consists out of 1803 iPhone and Galaxy search queries, of which more than 10 % contained financing terms like \u201cinstalled payment\u201d, \u201cdeferred payment\u201d or \u201cfinancing\u201d. Typical spelling errors were checked, corrected and included in the analysis.<\/p>\n<h2>What we found out<\/h2>\n<p>Here\u2019s what we found out during our Search Query Analysis of Apple vs. Samsung:<\/p>\n<h3>1. There is a significant relationship between conversion rates and the financing search queries for Apple&#8217;s iPhone 6 using a Chi Squared Test\u00b2.<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/smarter-ecommerce.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/apple-vs.-samsung-search-queries.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-689\" src=\"https:\/\/smarter-ecommerce.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/apple-vs.-samsung-search-queries-1024x576.png\" alt=\"apple vs. samsung search queries\" width=\"648\" height=\"365\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>2. Nobody searched for financing in combination with Samsung Galaxy S5 or S6 devices.<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>3. The Average Order Value (AOV) for Apple&#8217;s iPhone 6 was almost 30 % higher when the search query included financing terms. As the Cost per Click stayed the same for both groups, the Cost per Conversion for the financing search query group were reduced to one-twentieth!<\/h3>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/smarter-ecommerce.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/apple-vs.-samsung-order-value-and-cpc.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-2\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-690\" src=\"https:\/\/smarter-ecommerce.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/apple-vs.-samsung-order-value-and-cpc-1024x576.png\" alt=\"apple vs. samsung order value and cpc\" width=\"648\" height=\"365\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>4. When comparing the Cost per Conversion between Apple&#8217;s and Samsung\u2019s flagship devices it turned out that the Cost per Conversion of Samsung\u2019s devices is far below Apple.<\/h3>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/smarter-ecommerce.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/apple-vs.-samsung-cpc.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-3\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-691\" src=\"https:\/\/smarter-ecommerce.com\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/apple-vs.-samsung-cpc-1024x576.png\" alt=\"apple vs. samsung cpc\" width=\"648\" height=\"365\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>5. Comparing only non-financing-related search queries, the Samsung conversion rate is much higher than the Apple conversion rate but the AOV of Samsung is a lot lower. The iPad behaves very similar to the iPhone. This confirms the premium brand status of Apple, as even people who can\u2019t afford it really want to buy their expensive products.
